Falcons Sports

The East Kentwood JV team knows that it is the Varsity who will get most of the accolades this season.  That is pretty much the norm  in High School sports.  However, behind every good, great or exceptional Varsity football team, there is a JV team waiting in the wings, to prove themselves, and take over the helm.  Such is true with this year's JV football team.  I have had the opportunity to watch the team practice and have been quite impressed with their hard work and dedication to the game.  Thought not big in numbers, they make up for it with big hearts, and yes, even several big bodies.

Two of those big bodies come in the form of Joe Green #66 and Adam Martin #77....double numbers and double trouble for the opposing team's offense.  Both Green and Martin will anchor the Defensive Line for several years to come.  Joe Green made me reminisce about "Mean Joe Greene" who anchored the famous "Steel Curtain" for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1969 to 1981 - (okay, I just dated myself!) - although there is no ending "E" in East Kentwood's Joe Green's last name, it doesn't take away from his "E-normous" passion and commitment to being EK's "Mean Joe Green!"  I had to chuckle when I asked Green and Martin if I could take their photo.  Martin said, "Should we smile?"  To which I replied, "Guys, there is no smiling in football!"  As I went to snap the photo, Green and Martin smiled.  And so did I....  (Look for photos of Green and Martin and the JV team in the photo section of the EK Website page)

There will be a lot to smile about this year regarding the JV team I'm sure.  Three Quarterbacks are capable and ready to go:
#3 Aaron Hunt, #10 Jacob Vanderwal, and #12 Jason Dickey.  Led by Coach Mike Rivers and Assistants, Marv Lacy and Dominic Grodozzi II, the JV team is ready to make some noise.  GO FALCONS!
